I'm working with an applied AI research lab building what they believe will become the future of financial intelligence.

The team is developing AI systems capable of breaking down complex financial questions, writing and executing data-science code, iterating on results, and generating investment insights autonomously. Their long-term vision is ambitious: building AI systems that can continuously learn, reason, and make increasingly accurate predictions about the future.

This is a founding-level engineering role with significant ownership over core systems and direct collaboration with the founders.

This is not a traditional backend role. It's not a narrow infrastructure position. It's a high-agency engineering role focused on improving intelligence, reasoning, reliability, and product capabilities across an applied AI system.

You'll work on problems such as:

• Agent orchestration and multi-step reasoning workflows

• AI systems that write, execute, and evaluate code

• Evaluation loops, traceability, and system reliability

• Knowledge retrieval and iterative learning systems

• Production AI infrastructure supporting rapid experimentation

• Improving intelligence, reasoning quality, and user outcomes

We're looking for engineers who have:

• Strong Python engineering experience building production systems

• Experience owning projects end-to-end, from architecture through deployment

• A track record of shipping quickly in ambiguous environments

• Strong systems thinking and the ability to improve complex systems holistically

• Experience working with modern AI tooling and development workflows

• High agency and the ability to operate with minimal oversight.

• Applied AI systems

• AI agents and agentic workflows

• LLM applications

• Backend engineering

• Evaluation and observability systems

• Distributed systems

• Research engineering

• Developer tools and AI infrastructure

Must have -

• Experience working at early-stage startups
