Senior BMC Firmware Engineer

I’m working with a well-funded AI semiconductor startup building a new processor architecture for frontier-scale language models.
The team is developing its first generation of AI compute boards and needs a senior engineer to own the OpenBMC firmware stack - from initial board bring-up through production datacenter deployment.
You’ll be one of the first engineers dedicated to this area, with broad influence over firmware architecture, platform manageability, and board design.
You’ll work on problems such as:
- Building and shipping OpenBMC firmware for custom AI compute boards
- Owning Yocto/OpenEmbedded builds, board ports, U-Boot, and device trees
- Developing telemetry, inventory, event logging, thermal, power, and RAS capabilities
- Implementing Redfish, IPMI, MCTP, PLDM, and SPDM interfaces
- Building secure-boot, attestation, and firmware-update flows
- Writing Linux kernel drivers and D-Bus/sdbusplus services
- Debugging across hardware and firmware using schematics, JTAG, and lab equipment.
Looking for engineers who have:
- 8+ years of BMC firmware or embedded-Linux experience
- Hands-on OpenBMC ownership from board bring-up through production
- Strong C/C++, with Python or Bash
- Deep experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded, U-Boot, device trees, and Linux internals
- Experience with ASPEED, Nuvoton, or similar BMC SoCs
- Board-level experience with I2C/I3C, SPI, SMBus, UART, PCIe, or JTAG
- Knowledge of Redfish, IPMI, MCTP, PLDM, or SPDM
- The ability to operate autonomously across firmware, hardware, silicon, and systems
This is a rare opportunity to establish the management firmware architecture for a new AI platform rather than inherit a mature stack.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and able to work from the Mountain View office Tuesday through Thursday.
